MUMTV Brings Campus Events to the World

MUMTV was recently launched to provide free live streaming of campus events, as well as an archive library of past talks and conferences. MUMTV has produced seven live web shows and has garnered 3059 viewers since its inception in May.

“Our plan is to make this into a resource, so that people who don’t live in Fairfield can have the same access to the broad array of knowledge that we enjoy at MUM every week,” said Paul Stokstad, MUM director of marketing.

The following events are available for viewing in the archive: Richard Register on Rebuilding our Cities Sustainably, Jonathan Yavelow on Stargazing to Sustainability, the Women’s Wisdom Weekend, Dr. A. Thimmaiah on Feeding our Future, the 2013 graduation awards ceremony, alumnus Alex Cequea’s 36-Hour World Record Speech, and The Deep Green Business Symposium.

In addition to covering lectures, conferences, and cultural events, MUMTV plans to offer weekly shows, such as interviews with MUM faculty, academic presentations, and interactive classes. The web streaming tool also has a chat function where viewers can post questions that presenters can answer live.

MUMTV is able to stream from any location with a fast Internet connection. Dalby Hall in the Argiro Student Center has recently been equipped with a dedicated Internet line, and Mr. Stokstad would also like to stream events from the Golden Domes, as well as from other locations on campus and in Fairfield.

“Events that are normally in Fairfield only, all of a sudden have a national and global reach,” said Mr. Stokstad. “We’ve had viewers from all over the world.” Through an international press release service, MUMTV is able to publicize events that may be of interest to people outside Fairfield.
